Due to overwhelming request....
DOWNLOAD
This file is uploaded for a very limited time and consists of the frustratingly hard to find;
The masters of the universe cartoon soundtrack by Shuki Levy , The M.A.S.K. 7" single , the Jayce and the wheeled warriors single and the Thundercats (cosmocats) singles both sides). Limited time only, last time!:)

For a 15 years now I've been searching record fairs and later online auctions to find obscure soundtracks from my favourite tv series and movies from the eighties. Every now and then I found something great and 9 out of 10 times it was a French release. Diving a little into the subject I found out that the amount of French releases is enormous and there are much more soundtracks available than you might think. The records reminded me a lot of what was released in Japan, because France seemed to have a lot more anime series on tv then the rest of Europe had. Most have the theme songs in french on them (or unique French themes), but the b-sides reveal great instrumental themes too. I will try to list most information I found about them. The French titles for Original soundtrack is Bande originale , or B.O.

As you can see below there were a lot of compilation lp's released in the eighties too, containing these singles. Fortunately, some companies have made new compilations the last couple of years on cd. Unfortunately these only have a distribution in France.
This label produces them.

A composer duo that are much featured on record (They had their own label Saban records, so that's why) were Shuki Levy and Haim Saban. They made a lot of well known theme songs. Their most famous is that of Inspector Gadget, with Heman And the Masters of the universe as a close second. As far as I know Shuki Levy is the composer of the two , with Haim Saban doing the business part (but don't quote me on that). At this moment they're still very succesful , but in other aspects of the movie business. Let's have a look at them

Shuki Levy

Shuki Levy is the composer of background music and theme songs of many well known eighties tv shows. His name is always listed together with Haim Saban , though I don't know how exactly if both are musicians. For a full list of scoring credits look up any movie data base , I'm only listing the pieces I have records from or that I know something about.

ULYSSE 31 - MUSIQUE ORIGINALE DE LA SERIE TELEVISEE
This record is from 1981 and has the themes Ulysse and Telemaque. I don't know much about this series, it does seem to have been very popular in France , as there are tons of websites on it. There are also tons of Ulysse 31 records and cd's available.

Goldorak theme song , sung by Noam. This is probably the translated version of the Japanese Mazinger Z series. The b-side has the instrumental version. There are more Goldorak 7"singles and there is a lp too. This website has more info.

GOLDORAK NOUVELLE CHANSON ORIGINALE DE LA SERIE TELEVISEE (Toei animation)
Another of the many Goldorak records that were available in France. This is the new theme from 1982 Et l'aventure continue (sung by Lionel leroy). The B-side has the track Robot. Both songs are from a long playing record , which has the same sleeve as this single.

JAYCE ET LA CONQUERANTS DE LA LUMIERE ( JAYCE AND THE WHEELED WARRIORS)
Side a has the long version of the theme song , the b side has the instrumental version. This is from 1985 and mostly a forgotten tv series. That's too bad, since it did have a very fine show and even fun toys. There is a region 1 dvd available now with four episodes. The background music for it is quite good. There is a second theme (song) which plays during the end titles, this isn't available on record as far as I know.

A very rare Jayce and the wheeled warriors 45rpm single from France. This has a story and the opening and ending themes (in French)

INSPECTEUR GADGET - BANDE ORIGINALE DE LA SERIE TV
This is from 1983 and have two songs sung by Apollo. The A-side is the famous Inspector Gadget theme, only a tiny tiny more flowing than the one heard in the cartoon. This one has a more "walking" beat, instead of a "marching" one.
The B-side has Le chanson de Fino. The instrumental version of this is mostly heard at the end of the cartoon when everything is alright and Brain or Gadget does something stupid and funny.

Thanks to Tyler for providing us with the following picture. It is the exact same record as the one listed above , even the catalogue number is the same , only the sleeve is different.

Another Inspector Gadget single on Saban records. This one has " une aventure extraite de la serie televisee ) , it's a story record. I don't have this one, so I don't know if there is any music on it too.
During the end titles of the Inspecor Gadget cartoon there was this little listing "soundtrack available on Saban records" . It took me about 20 years , but I finally found one , it must be one of the rarest soundtracks because you can't find it any-where! This is an LP and has the same sleeve as the single above (Gagdget with umbrella). It was released in France the first couple of tracks are French songs, but on music from Shuki Levy and Haim Saban. All the other tracks are background scores from various episodes , with an instrumental version of the Gadget theme to finish it. It's not a complete soundtrack I think, but it's still cool.

Since I get about 2 to 3 e-mails requesting for this record a week, I'll post it here temporarely . When they're not active again, they're gone!

A record from 1986. I don't have this one myself, so i can't tell too much about it,but it has 15 English tracks. This is probably the mysterious record that was being advertised in the Inspector gadget end titles, it's from Great Britain (?) and on ABC records.

M.A.S.K. CHANSON GENERIQUE
A long and French version of the uptempo theme, the B-side luckily has an instrumental version. I wish I knew back in 1986 there was a record of this available.

M.A.S.K. Extrait de la serie telivisee , Mission destruction. A storybook record, click here to see two of the interior pages. There is some background music playing constantly, but I don't think it is from the series.

French heathcliff single from 1985

Les Amichaines ; La chanson originale de l'emission de television. This one is from 1985 and also came out on Saban records.

Les succes Saban Volume 1
Compilation cd of Shuki Levy and Haim Saban tv theme singles. Hard to find and sung in French(!)

Les succes Saban Volume 2
Compilation cd of Shuki Levy and Haim Saban tv theme singles.

45RPM:SHUKI LEVY AND AVIVA PAZ

OH NO NO (IN JAPANESE ) / ROMAN TETUDO DE(IN JAPANESE)

Not cartoon related , but an example of the music Shuki Levy started with.

OTHER INTERESTING SHUKI LEVY THINGS;

I still need to make a proper Shuki Levy webpage someday....actually I'm already working on it, but I'm slow. Here are some other things that I still need to work out more , but I'll place temporarely here.

He scored the background music for The real ghostbusters cartoon

He scored the music for He-man and the masters of the universe. Check out my He-man page (link above) for more info. A record of selected background score was released on record in the eighties (not the Bill Conti movie score!). He also produced the music for She-ra.

Some of the He-man music can also be heard in the Lost cities of gold tv series. There are a couple of soundtracks available on record and even on cd , they're very much like the He-man music.

He also produced background music for M.A.S.K. and Jayce and the wheeled warriors.

If anyone knows anything that's missing here, LET ME KNOW! I'll give you credit on my new website.

OTHER RECORDS

Cosmocats ( Thundercats )
La chansons de lemission telivisee.
The first of three Thundercats soundtracks.

Cosmocats ( Thundercats )
L'alliance des mutants

Another Cosmocats ( Thundercats ) 7" single. La chanson originale de l'emission , which means the theme song in a long version. The b side has great instrumental thundercats background music from the series.

The theme to Gobots ( Go-bots) , generique tv. The b-side has the instrumental version. The French did make a completely different theme to the USA version though. This theme was also featured on a compilation that you can find in the
Transformers section. An lp with the same cover was available too, but this only had two stories on it, no music.

Les copains de la tele, one a compilation series. This single had the themes to Gobots , Albator, Zorro and Musclor (He-man). Gobots was also featured on another volume. The picture below shows volume 1, which has exactly the same record in it.

Chanson originale du generique de la serie tv. Theme song to the Voltron cartoon on record

Les Popples , or The Popples , theme song to the cartoon.

Les Snorky , or The Snorks , or De Snorkels , a fun series that was a rip-off the Smurfs, but still good.

CAPITAINE FLAM - BANDE ORIGINALE DU FEUILLETON TELEVISE CAPITAINE FLAM
This record is from 1980 and is called CAPTAIN FUTURE in English. The music is by Jean Jaques Debout. The A-side has the main theme, the very funky melodicdisco theme, Capitaine Flam. The B-side La chevauchee du capitaine Flam.

The Bioman theme and the instrumental version. I guess Bioman is the french eighties version of Powerrangers. There are numerous Bioman singles out there.

Bioman , Nouvelle chansons du feuilleton tv
Another one of the many Bioman singles.

Le Noel de Bioman , sung by Bernard Minet ( A Power zrangers Christmas single)

Dis Moi Bioman , sung by Bernard Minet

Candy candy , one of the sweetest series ever made.

Juliette , Je T'aime
The French version of the classic anime series Maison Ikkoku . This single came out in 1988 and has the French theme songs Juliette je t'aime and juliette et Hugo written by J.F. Porry and G. Salesses. This single has a very good sound quality with lots of bass. Maison Ikkoku is an anime and a manga series written by Rumiko Takahashi. She also did Urusei Yatsura , Ranma 1/2 and Inu Yasha to name a few. It's still on my list to devote more space on her once.

Goldorak 3 ; Le prince e l'espace, sung by the Goldies

Goldorak 2 ; La legende d'actarus, sung by the Goldies

Le Retour de Goldorak single
Nouveille chanson du feuilleton t.v.

End titles of Goldork , d'apres la serie televisee La justice de.

A set with read long books and tapes from 1987, containing stories from Thundercats, Silverhawks, Robotech and Starriors.

Ballade pour Cosette sung by Chantal Goya for the French translation of "Les miserables" . I don't know the Japanese name. The bside has a collection of instrumental pieces by composer Yasuo Minami. It's very melodic and probably fits the anime extremely well. 7"single

My little Pony
Theme song sung by Stephanie , Sandrine et les enfants de bondy.

Bravestarr
This series came out around 1987 and, in my opinion, it tried a little too hard. I haven't seen the cartoon (if there is any) , but the toys and commercials tried to be too much a success like G.I.Joe or Transformers. It does have it's following though, just like Thundercats, which came out during the same era.

Aaah how sweet, LES BISOUNOURS or THE CARE BEARS.
This and the record on the right both have different themes then the USA version. This one has the tracks; Les bisounours des bisounours , sung by Stephanie Sandrine et les Enfants de bondy , the B-side is; Gentil bisounours sung by les Enfants de Bondy. all the songs on these singles are written by J.F. Porry and G.Salesses. This one is from 1986.

This one is from 1987 and is the newer theme of the cartoon series. The A-side has; Bisous bisous gentil Bisounours (Nouveau generique) , the B-side Gros Bisous , sung by Dorothee. Although it's way too sweet, the cartoon wasn't bad back then.

A collection lp called 6 histoires avec tes heros de la tele
his contains three 7" singles, both a- and b-sides an it has the following tracks;
BIOMAN - LE VOL DES CERVAUX - L'OR DES FOUS
GOLDORAK - DU SANG DANS LA NEIGE - L'ENFANT ESPION
MASK - MISSION DESTRUCTIBLE - L'INFAME COMPLOT DE VENON

Le hit parade des enfants

Compilation containing 14 tracks and the following series ; DOROTHEE , DRAGON BALL , CORBIER , CANDY , GOLDORAK , BIOMAN , CHEVALIERS DU ZODIAQUE , SPIELVAN

Le hit parade des Enfants
A long playing record that collects a lot of the singles; bioman , silverhauks ( Silverhawks ) , chevaliers du zodiaque , juliette je t'aime , les attaquantes , candy , lamu , goldorak , petit poney ( My little pony ) , spielvan , dragon ball , flashman , georgie , dr slump , cherry miel , galaxy express , bioman 2 , les bisounoiurs

La grande amis de la tele
Compilation cd with popular series like Goldorak , Les mysterieuses cites d'or , Inspecteur gadget and Ulysse 31. Ulysse 31 is another story and there are many records available, also many websites who specialises in them.

Unfortunately I don't own these four records yet, so I can't give you much information. They're Inspector Gadget (probably a story record) , Battle of the Planets record (Gatchaman record) , Albator and Maya the bee (this one has the well known theme by James Last who orchestrated it like it sounded that the bee made the sound of the melody)

Generation recre A2
Compilation cd with 31 tracks from He man Scoubidoo Spiderman, Candy Inspector gadget and more , see the
tracklisting. As you can see from this scan, you can buy it here.

OTHER EIGHTIES SERIES

Remember these?

Robotix VHS , a great great cartoon movie series from the same people from Sunbow that did the Transformers and G. I. Joe cartoons. This is pretty hard to get, but it's worth it, as it has an interesting story full of twists and turns. This was , because the movie was shown in 5 minute parts with cliff-hangers ending each part.

Here is the back of theRobotix box; Note the availability of Other Sunbow series like Inhumanoids and Bigfoot and the muscle machines.

In August 2003 Prism released Robotix on DVD in the UK. Click here for a large scan of the front and here for the back. Unfortunately there isn't much info on Robotix on the web. Future webmasters take note!

..The DvD had a re-release in the U.K. in december of 2007 with a brand new cover!

Marvel produced one comic which is kind of a summary of the first couple of episodes of Robotix in one 25 page strip. It has pretty clean good looking artwork and a sample page is on the right.

Mask (M.A.S.K.)

Mask (M.A.S.K.)

MICRO COMMANDO DIATRON 5

This is a Diaclone cartoon, at least I think it is. Someone told me the Diaclones figures are in it. It's a vhs tape and I watched a couple of moments. It's terrible, in my opinion. Maybe if I watched it as a kid, then it would look better in my eyes, but this is just a silly old cartoon. Animation is boring and the music doesn't sound like music. The sleeve looks pretty cool, but it's like a comic book with a nice airbrushed cover and badly drawn black and white art inside. I got this vhs (which came out in 1987 in a huge box) in a deal which also got me a couple of dvd's on this page. It's a nice curiousity, and probably very rare, but that's all that is to it. For Diaclone diehards only.

Challenge of the Gobots video "The gobotron saga", this also was available on a laserdisc. I haven't seen this one, but if it's as bad as the regular cartoon series, never mind it.

Challenge of the Gobots part 2, containing 2 episodes; Trident's Triple Threat and Doppelganger

On the left you see

BIGFOOT AND THE MUSCLE MACHINES.

This was from the same team as Jem , G.I.Joe , Transformers , Robotix and Inhumanoids (Sunbow). These cartoons all resemble each other a lot, because of the same music and voices, but they're great! This one is about a team of people who drive in these muscle machines and are looking for the fountain of youth. Ofcourse there's an evil organisation too. It was broadcast, just like Robotix in 5 minute segments. Here in Europe they showed it on Sky Channel in the DJ Kat show. This tape came out in 1987 and contains the whole series.

On the right; the back of Bigfoot and the muscle machines. After Robotix and Inhumanoids, this one still deserves a DVD release!

A Bigfoot toy, just like it appeared in the cartoon. This toy came out in 2003. I'm not sure what the connection between the toys and the cartoon and the real life Bigfoots are.

This is a Robotech comic from 1998 from from Antartic press. I don't know much about Robotech, but this is a very cool looking black and white comic from the small publisher Antartic press, who also made the Transformers Cybertronian guides.

Also Thanks to Elia for the following list of eighties cartoons. I'm not sure if I know them myself, but for most of you other eighties kids, they might ring a bell!!

Maple Town (France:Les Petit Malins) It's a cute Anime series that stars Bobby Bear and Patty Rabbit as they go on their adventures with their animals friends. The enemy is Wilde Wolf that causes trouble. It was made by Toei animation in 1986 in Japan.
Rainbow Brite
Glo Worms/Glo Friends
Moon Dreamers
Minky Momo/Gigi
